Mold Remediation in Kitchener-Waterloo
Mould remediation in Kitchener — containment, removal, HEPA cleaning and verification, with the moisture source fixed so the mould doesn't come back next spring.
Bad remediation looks like this: someone sprays the dark patch with a stain blocker, replaces the drywall, and leaves. Six months later the smell is back, because the wet wall behind it was never dried and the reason it was wet was never fixed. Proper remediation is a controlled demolition-and-cleaning job, and in Kitchener it has to be paired with fixing the specific thing that grew the mould — which changes by neighbourhood and by decade of construction.
What's included
- Containment of the work area with poly barriers and negative air so spores don't spread to the rest of the house
- Removal and bagging of mould-affected drywall, insulation, carpet, underlay and trim; wood framing cleaned and treated, not just painted
- HEPA vacuuming and damp-wiping of all surfaces in the containment; HEPA air scrubbers running throughout
- Drying the cavity with air movers and dehumidifiers, confirmed with moisture readings before anything is closed
- Fixing the moisture source — ourselves or coordinated with the right trade — before rebuild
- Rebuild of drywall, insulation and finishes, and post-remediation verification
What we fix along with the mould in Kitchener
Attic mould in post-war bungalows: the bathroom fan gets ducted through the roof, soffit vents get cleared or added, and insulation is brought up so the roof deck stays cold and dry. Finished basements on the clay east side: carpet and paper-faced batts come out; the wall gets a drainage plane and rigid foam so it can dry, and grading or interior drainage is addressed. Old-ward century homes: a rubble foundation can't be made waterproof, so the fix is managing humidity, getting finishes off the stone and adding mechanical ventilation. Newer Doon and Huron Park homes: the leak — window flashing, a supply line, a shower pan — gets repaired, because the wall assembly itself is fine.
Small job or big job?
A closet ceiling under a bathroom is a half-day with a small containment. A finished basement that's been damp for years is a multi-day job with the whole room contained. We scope it in writing, tell you what's coming out and what's staying, and don't add walls to the job once it starts unless the moisture readings say we have to — and if they do, you hear about it before we cut.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to leave the house during remediation?
Usually not. Containment and negative air keep the work area isolated. For a large basement job in a small home, or if someone in the household is sensitive, we'll suggest staying elsewhere for the demolition days.
Will the mould come back?
Not if the moisture source is actually fixed — which is why we won't remediate without addressing it. If the source is something outside our trade, we'll tell you who to call and won't rebuild until it's done.
Do you provide a clearance or verification?
Yes. After cleaning, we verify visually and with moisture readings; third-party air sampling can be arranged where a lender, landlord or buyer needs it.
